How your legacy helps us rebuild lives

Summary: Some of the vital services that Legacies help RNIB to provide.

The RNIB Talking Book Service provides an extensive range of over 15,000 audio books.RNIB offers information, support and advice to over two million people with sight loss in the UK. Legacies account for approximately a third of RNIB's total income. Without them, we could not provide these vital services.

"I couldn't do without my talking books, especially at night. It would be dreadful without them, so lonely. Thankfully I am never left without a book, they are my lifeline."

RNIB Helpline

"When my daughter lost her sight I was terrified. I always kept it together when around her, but inside I was an emotional mess. Thankfully I called the RNIB Helpline. They listened to me and then gradually eased my fears for the future. I wouldn’t like to think how I’d have coped without it."
Marie

The RNIB Helpline gives reassurance and advice about sight problems.

Emotional support

"Talking every week was really important and helped me more than anything else. This has made so much difference to my life, my sight isn’t any better than it was, but the time of being depressed has gone. Now I enjoy my days and my garden, and look forward to the future."

Transcription service

"Tiri is really interested in music and one of our biggest problems is getting printed music big enough for her to see. RNIB makes the music bigger for her so that she can enjoy playing her piano, violin and flute."
Tiri's mum, Laura

Transcription is an invaluable service, especially to school children like Tiri.

Campaigns

RNIB campaigns fight to make a real difference to the equality and rights of blind and partially sighted people.

For example, RNIB helped Jean to receive the sight loss treatment she needed from her Primary Care Trust.

“I can’t express how relieved and happy I am. I want to thank RNIB, the lawyers and my ophthalmologist for everything they've done. I'm so pleased for everyone else in a similar situation - now we won’t have to lose our sight."
Jean

Your support helps us provide vital services and build a brighter future for blind and partially sighted people.

Your stories

Jill's story - Jill lost her sight 12 years ago at the age of 19. “The experience left me feeling isolated. I often felt like my life was pointless." Now, as a presenter on Insight Radio, she uses her experiences to help others. “My prayer is that what we do helps those who are going through sight loss. Even the tiniest piece of information can make a huge difference. If my show can help do that, then my journey has not been in vain.” Jill's full story
