Summary: A complete guide to buying and borrowing books from RNIB


RNIB gives you lots of ways to get hold of books and information. This is a short guide to the various resources that can help you get the book you want.

RNIB Catalogues

The online shop is the place to:

  • order a free copy of the popular Daisy books catalogue
  • browse and buy from our range of RNIB publications for professionals, specifically designed to cover such topics as education, welfare, mobility and many other subjects
  • find other RNIB publications and resources including courses for braille learners and free guides to living with sight loss.

Some callers may find it cheaper to call a landline, so we have detailed both 08 prefixed numbers and the landline equivalent.

Reader support

If you're looking for inspiration, you can call Reader Services on 01733 37 53 33 or email libraryinfo@rnib.org.uk. We also produce themed book lists to give you ideas about what to read next. If we don't currently offer a book that you really want to read, please let us know.

Both publications are available to order for free from the online shop or Customer Services.

Magazines and book lists

  • New Books is our bi-monthly update of all the latest book titles available for loan and sale from RNIB.
  • Read On is our quarterly magazine featuring news about our services and information about books and reading.
  • We offer an extensive range of leisure magazines with topics ranging from celebrity gossip, employment advice and TV listings.
  • Big Print is the only national weekly newspaper in large print with accompanying TV and Radio guide supplement.
  • Our book lists guide you through the various genres and subjects available from RNIB.

Talk to other readers

  • Word of mouth is a great source of information about books. Talk with others about all things related to reading on the RNIB Reader's forum. Just go to the board and register to join in or simply browse the messages.
  • You can also share your love of reading with others using our Telephone Book Clubs.

Information online

If you are a member of the Library or Talking Book Service you can use our range of online reference services for free. These services include local and national newspapers, reference works and dictionaries, magazines and UK related almanacs. Visit the Technology homepage for advice on using your computer and the Internet for reading.

Join the Right to Read campaign

RNIB believes blind and partially sighted people should be able to read the same book as everyone else, at the same time and at no extra cost. Help us to defend your rights by getting involved in the Right to Read campaign.
