Editor’s note
Hello, and welcome to the August 2007 edition of New Book Guide.
Here you’ll find details of the latest braille and audio titles available from RNIB, (including the latest RNIB Talking Books). You’ll find details of how to order at the end of the listings.
Please note that we are using a new key in New Book Guide for books which contain content that may cause offence. Where appropriate, we have shown the type of content following the book title, where D indicates disturbing; L language; S sexual; and V violent in nature.
You can now order the 2007 Daisy books catalogue. This updated catalogue is available free of charge and includes cookery titles, poetry, science fiction and fantasy, horror, crime novels, thrillers, humorous stories, tales of romance, children’s fiction and much, much more. The catalogue is available in print (order no. IP405P), braille (IP405B), on audio CD (IP405CD) or Daisy audio (IP405DCD) from RNIB's online shop or from RNIB Customer Services - call 0845 702 3153.
We'd also like to remind you that Daisy books are not part of RNIB's Talking Book Service and can not be requested in the same way as Talking Books. You can buy Daisy books from our online shop or from Customer Services.
If you’d like to pass on comments or ideas for the magazine, then we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us through Customer Services on 0845 702 3153 or via email at editorial@rnib.org.uk
Until next month,

Introduction
New Book Guide is also available in braille or tape or via email. To receive New Book Guide in one of these formats, please contact Customer Services on 0845 702 3153 or via email at cservices@rnib.org.uk
The listings are divided into reading formats: braille, Talking Books (newly recorded titles on CD only) and Learning and Skills titles. Within each section, the titles are split between fiction and non-fiction, with these being separated once again into subject areas where appropriate. Some titles may only be available in the UK due to copyright restrictions and Talking Books are only available to UK customers.
Each listing includes author, title, date of publication, order number, number of volumes (braille only), length of recording (audio only). For RNIB Talking Book titles, the narrator is also included. A short synopsis is given only where the title is not self-explanatory.
Please note that all Talking Book titles are newly recorded digital titles on CD, and so are unavailable in a cassette tape format. All braille titles are in Grade 2 unless otherwise indicated.
Daisy books from the newly-digitised cassette library, now known as the Learning and Skills Library, are available as part of Talking Book subscription. Some recordings have employed multiple narrators and others using synthetic speech. These books have a single line synopsis and are mostly academic and reference material. To find out about other titles available, please call the Library and Information team on 0845 7023 153 and ask for extension 5333. The cassette library using analogue tape has now closed and we are no longer accepting any requests for cassette books. However, you can still request cassette titles not yet available in the new library to be digitised and sent to you on Daisy CD. Call Customer Services on 0845 762 6843.
