Adult education centre at RNIB Condover Hall School to remain open
Summary: Condover now run by charitable company of parents and staff
16 April 2004
The RNIB Adult Education Centre at Condover in Shropshire, which was to close in July, will now remain open and be run by a charitable company set up by parents and staff with the support of RNIB.
RNIB has agreed to lease the buildings and transfer assets to the company, Condover College Ltd, which will run the centre from July, initially for 12 students with the aim of increasing this to 19 over the next two years.
The Centre will continue to provide education and care for multi-disabled students with sight problems over the age of 18, with staff transferring to the new venture. Setting up a charitable company to run the Centre was proposed by Stephen McGill, whose son is at Condover, and agreed by RNIB Trustees on 7 April.
Stephen McGill said: “I’m delighted we will be able to maintain this valuable facility. We welcome RNIB’s support for continuing adult education at Condover as this is a unique centre with unique expertise.”
Neville Lawson, RNIB Assistant Director, said: “We are very pleased that the Adult Education Centre at Condover will now remain open and continue to provide excellent education and care to its students. We wish Mr McGill and the other stakeholders involved well for the future.”
