Reading about sight problems

  • RNIB Research Library catalogue – includes books, reports, journal articles, videos, websites and government publications on all aspects of sight loss. No password required.
  • Sensory Information Service – UK-wide information service for the Deaf community, people with sight problems and professionals and volunteers working in this field. SIS is funded by and based in the Scottish Sensory Centre. No password required. Also available on CD-ROM in the Research Library.

Education

  • Educator's Reference Desk - the world's largest source of education information. No password required.
  • Inclusion (BECTA) - online catalogue of resources to support individual learning needs. No password required.
  • Intute: Social Sciences – Social Science Information Gateway, includes resources on psychology, education and social care. No password required.

Eye health

  • Medline - produced by the US national Library of Medicine, a major source of references and abstracts for biomedical literature. Access via the British Medical Association: OVID password required – contact the Research Library.

Older people

  • AgeInfo - information service on old age and ageing provided by the Centre for Policy on Ageing. No password required.

  • Virtual Reference Library – provided by the British Library, this is a listing of general reference sources available on the web
