Supporting job seekers, employees and employers

  • We support blind and partially sighted people to find work.
  • We assist employees with sight problems to continue in work.
  • We help employers to recruit people with sight loss.

Job seekers

We offer job seekers skills assessment, vocational guidance and skills training. This includes experience in using the latest access technology.

Employees

We provide employees who have sight loss with support to retain their job. The service works jointly with the employer and employee. We support the employee in keeping their job and help the employer to keep the employee’s skills and experience.

Employers

We help employers to recruit blind and partially sighted people. Through our Transcription Service we can provide employers with advice on providing information in alternative formats such as braille or CD.

Providing expertise and training in Scotland

We support job seekers, employees and employers through a number of services and facilities.

Employment and Learning Centre

RNIB Scotland’s Employment and Learning Centre is specially equipped to provide blind and partially sighted people with the skills, qualifications and confidence to enable them to remain in work or obtain employment.

Employment Consultancy

The Employment and Learning Service offers consultancy services to organisations to help them achieve best practice in the employment of blind and partially sighted people. This includes training staff in disability awareness, access to technology and assessing job descriptions.

We offer individuals work-focused guidance interviews and give advice about rehabilitation, training and specialist equipment.

Technology Consultancy

Our technology specialists advise people with sight loss and their employers. We provide assessments and advice on all aspects of using technology; in employment, learning and daily living.

We offer group and one-to-one training in a wide range of equipment and software including:

  • video magnifiers
  • electronic reading aids
  • magnification and screen reader software
  • computer systems
  • note takers
  • braille technology.

Focus on Employability service, Glasgow

Glasgow City Council is the first local authority in the UK to fund specialist employability services targeted at reducing unemployment among blind and partially sighted people.

This service provides training and assistance for unemployed people, employers and employment agency staff. Find out more about Focus on Employability.
