About Techshare 2005

Techshare 2005 was a great success when it was held on 17-18 November at Jury’s Inn in Birmingham. The event attracted around 300 delegates from 12 countries including keynote speakers from Apple US, NHS and Tesco.

The conference was supported by various disability organisations and sponsored by some well known technology companies including Microsoft and Adobe Systems.

Audience gathered together for a presentation

As well as the latest developments in technology for blind and partially sighted people, presentations covered various areas of technology including: Comparison, Technology Showcase, Learning, the Web and the Inclusive Classroom. A popular informal showcase of 20 exhibitors was also available to delegates alongside an Internet Café.

If you wanted a more in-depth workshop, the day previous to the conference offered the following pre-conference workshops: Basic and Advanced Web Accessibility, Adobe PDF Accessibility, Creating DAISY Books and Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader.

What delegates said about Techshare

  • Exceeded expectations, was interesting, full of friendly people, and helped me learn and make contact with some useful resources.
  • The balance of business and technical information was good in both workshops and the conference.
  • I attended Techshare to see a well organised conference - I was not disappointed.
  • The concept of the conference is good - aiming at the technical side of our work. It’s ‘one of a kind’ and in this field we need to meet and share experiences
  • Extremely well organised and very very beneficial. I will definitely be coming back.
