Children's events

The Llangrannog activity and drama week

This is a residential holiday at Llangrannog for children with a sight problem, aged 8-13 years.

The residential scheme will be taking place from Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October 2008.

Activities include: quad biking, skiing, tobogganing, horse riding, trampolining, as well as drama workshops (facilitated by UCAN productions).

Sports day

This event is an opportunity for children aged four and above, to try out sports in a safe environment and make new friends. Some of the sports available include archery, rebound, football, judo and many more. New sports opportunities for this year include a circus skills workshop and climbing wall. The event takes place at Llantrisant Leisure centre on Friday 27 June 2008, 10am - 3pm.

Please note that during this event children must be accompanied by an adult, who remains responsible for them at all times.

UCAN

UCAN Productions is a not for profit cooperative which aims to increase opportunities for blind and partially sighted young people to participate in the arts. They work in association with RNIB Cymru.

Currently UCAN are working throughout Wales, but will work in anywhere in the UK where there is a demand. Young people do not need any drama experience to become a UCAN member. The ethos of UCAN Productions is one of pure encouragement and fun.

The project is run by drama professional Bernard Latham, Artistic Director of UCAN Productions, who has been an actor and director for over 30 years.

Parents, family, carers and teachers are very welcome to attend and observe workshops.

Your stories

Jill's story - Jill lost her sight 12 years ago at the age of 19. “The experience left me feeling isolated. I often felt like my life was pointless." Now, as a presenter on Insight Radio, she uses her experiences to help others. “My prayer is that what we do helps those who are going through sight loss. Even the tiniest piece of information can make a huge difference. If my show can help do that, then my journey has not been in vain.” Jill's full story
