Web Accessibility Training Courses - Web Access Centre

Summary: Training courses available from the Web Access Centre.

"Very informative. I came to this course to brush up on my existing accessibility knowledge but ended up learning an awful lot more than I expected. The speakers were extremely interesting to listen to and I will thoroughly recommend it to my colleagues and friends."

Jamie Newman, Senior Developer, Underwired LTD.

To help you make your websites and web applications more accessible, we offer a range of open and in-house training courses. Courses are aimed at designers, content authors, developers as well as website owners, project managers and marketing personnel.

Training Weeks

In 2009, the RNIB Web Access Team is changing the way it runs its open training courses. For the benefit of delegates who wish to attend our open courses, but are a significant distance from London, we are going to be running all of our training courses back to back during training weeks at various points throughout the year. This is in contrast to how we have run our training courses in the past, with single day events being interspersed throughout the year. Having training weeks should save travel and accommodation costs for delegates who wish to attend more than one course.

In addition to this, we are also running some of our training weeks at venues outside of London. We have weeks planned for Liverpool and Edinburgh in the coming months.

Currently, we have training weeks planned for the 2nd - 5th June (London), 17th - 19th June (Liverpool), 10th - 14th August (London), 21st - 25th September (Edinburgh) and 23rd - 27th November (London).

Open Training Courses

Currently, we have five publicly available courses running:

New for 2009!

We've recently been working on some new training courses which we're pleased to announce will launch this year.

Working Through WCAG 2.0

This full day practical workshop provides information, techniques and resources to help you upgrade to the Web Accessibility Content Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0). It identifies the main differences between this and the previous version of the guidelines and examines techniques that can help or hinder conformance. Read the full description of our WCAG 2.0 course.

Practical Accessibility Testing

This full day practical workshop guides you through web accessibility testing techniques, introducing tools and providing tangible examples. It focuses on testing carried out using dedicated testing tools, simple browser tests and some widely used assistive technology software, such as screen readers. The workshop illustrates both automated and manual testing and explains the differences between them. Read the full description of our Practical Accessibility Testing course.

Accessible Rich Internet Applications - Understand and Use WAI-ARIA

This full day technical course introduces the Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specification. ARIA improves the accessibility of script heavy websites and web applications for assistive technology users. Learn about the problems ARIA sets out to solve, how it solves them and how to start using it. Read the full description of our Understand and Use WAI-ARIA course.

Existing Courses

We also have two exiting courses which we will be running this year.

Demystifying Accessibility

This full day course is designed to introduce website owners, commissioners, web designers, project managers and marketing staff to the many reasons for making websites accessible, including the principles and practices that make this possible. You'll learn about the various ways users with a disability access the web and take away tips and tricks to make your sites more accessible.
