CrowdViz is an iOS app that unites blind people with trusted sighted assistants. Blind users can receive immediate sighted help by connecting to a trusted assistant and it is as easy as a click of a single button. A quality experience with CrowdViz comprises not only of excellent assistance but also fast response time, one on one trained assistance, and 24 by 7 availability. Also, user's have the ability to rate their experience, so that we can continually provide a high quality service.
The usage of the app for visual assistance is convenient and easy, just call, connect to solve task and rate.
CrowdViz – similar in concept to Be My Eyes is a fantastic service for connecting you to a sighted assistant and aims to work 24-7, 365 days a year. All volunteers are screened and interviewed to provide the highest levels of professional service and deliver the service to a high standard. You can rate your experience of using the service once you have had assistance, and this feedback directly influences how the service works and the behaviours of the volunteers. The app itself uses FaceTime to connect you to a representative so only works on Apple devices, however you don’t need to wait for a connection to be established, once you have registered your need for assistance.
The app is fully accessible with voiceover and is very straight forward to use. You register with the service and provide them with your FaceTime email address so that you can be reached. When you need assistance, simply launch the app and press the request assistance button, sit back and relax and you will be called. Note that calls last no longer than 10 minutes to provide a fair service to everyone. Volunteers are nominally paid for the assistance that they provide and you receive 8 calls for free when signing up, with additional call time available through in-app purchase. In all, a well designed and easy to use app, friendly and supportive assistants and a very nominal cost structure make this a very useful app, we do advice people however to be mindful of passing on personal information.
