RNIB staff, volunteers and members of our Envision network attended and took part in the European Blind Union (EBU) “blind date” event in the European Parliament over 11 and 12 November.
Along with EBU colleagues from across the EU, we met over 100 MEPs, political advisors and journalists at the launch of EBU’s latest report ‘Access denied’. We used the event to push the European Commission to make good its promise to formally propose the long-promised “European Accessibility Act”, and to highlight the importance of a strong web accessibility directive.
The “Blind Date” was very well-received by MEPs and other visitors, and we benefited from widespread media coverage from across the EU and as far as China and the USA. We also made new contacts with new MEPs, their assistants and representatives from industry. The success of the event gives us great hope of success in our European campaigning over the coming years.
