Sight loss shouldn't mean job loss.
400,000 people of working age are living with sight loss. Only 1 in 4 people who are registered blind or partially sighted are in employment. With your help, we can provide expert advice, information and emotional support to more people with sight loss, so that sight loss doesn't have to mean job loss.
Our Sight Loss Advisers are here to advise people who are living with sight loss on all areas of employment including: staying in work, finding a new role, continuing in education and accessing housing support. We also offer support on independent living with practical advice on things like technology and travel.
For Rupa, who had always worked, being diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa could have meant having to give up her job and career. But her Sight Loss Adviser, Alice, proved to be a lifeline, giving her the support and practical advice to help her find a job she not only loved but which was also more accessible for her.
Through RNIB's support, Rupa gained the skills, knowledge and confidence to remain in work and in her own words, "the courage to ask for adaptations to help me in my workplace".
