You can help to end isolation for blind and partially sighted people with the freedom to read again. By registering to Sponsor a Talking Book you can give a lifeline to someone locally with sight loss.
Can you imagine your life without sight? How would you cope, how would you live your life?
Can you imagine no longer being able to read your favourite book, your weekly magazine or your daily newspaper? Think of the sense of isolation and loneliness that losing your eyesight would bring to your life.
Every 15 minutes someone begins to lose their sight. Right now there are 2 million people living with sight loss in the UK. For over 80 years, RNIB’s Talking Books service has helped create a lifeline to the outside world for blind and partially sighted people in the UK.

Apart from anything else I had been, in my working life, a journalist, and I devoured books. The Talking Book service for me is an absolute lifeline.”
His grandson Edward is three and a half, and his life has spanned the period of Graham’s sight loss. He started losing his sight a month before Edward was born. Having read to various generations of their family Graham found he was really missing that with Edward. Watch the film and learn how sharing a Talking Book together changed their future story.
“It really meant something to me, being able to listen to it with him. There’s a whole new world opening up for the both of us in listening to Talking Books. I would just hope that people could give the gift of reading and sponsor a Talking Book.”
It’s so easy to sponsor a Talking Book through JustGiving. An online fund can be set up by an individual, group or organisation.
