The Department for Education has produced a guide for local authorities about Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The guide covers how to support 19- to 25-year-olds with SEND:
  • To find a supported internship
  • To access further education
  • To extend or finish their EHC plan
  • Who need more time to study
  • With their health and social care.

Read the guide

The purpose of an EHC plan is to make special educational provision to meet the special educational needs of the child or young person, to secure the best possible outcomes for them across education, health and social care and, as they get older, prepare them for adulthood.
Download NatSIP’s guide for information about EHC plans and how to write them effectively.
