MP for Nottingham South, Lilian Greenwood met with the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham on 16 May to learn about the vital role that ECLOs play for people who have recently been diagnosed with sight loss.
The ECLO, Geoff Pickance spoke with Ms Greenwood about the importance of his role and the type of vital information and support he provides to newly diagnosed blind and partially sighted people.
On her visit, Ms Greenwood was given a tour of the two eye clinics where she also met with a member of staff from the local society, My sight Nottinghamshire, who have an information desk within the hospital. Ms Greenwood was informed that as of this July, the medical centre will no longer fund two ECLO posts but only one. This will inevitably leave Geoff incredibly stretched as the only ECLO at the two clinics.
We are very grateful to Lilian Greenwood MP who has pledged her support to our ‘Being there’ campaign.
