Searching for a job can be a difficult process but we’ve put together a factsheet to help you kickstart your search.

RNIB employment services

RNIB Helpline is the gateway to a whole range of services that can help with your job search, including:

  • referral to an employment specialist
  • advice about your entitlements to benefits and concessions
  • courses to boost your confidence and give you practical advice, information and resources
  • support in setting up your own business
  • Sight Loss Counselling Service

Sightline Directory

Sightline Directory is an online directory of services aimed at helping blind or partially sighted people. You can search for services in your area by typing in your town or postcode.

Jobcentre Plus

Jobseeker Direct is a phone service operated by Jobcentre Plus. It aims to keep you in touch with the latest job vacancies. This service is available to anyone who is looking for work, and the lines are open weekdays 8.00am - 6.00pm, and Saturdays 9.00am - 1.00pm on 0845 606 0234. You can also search for jobs on the Government website.

Disability Confident scheme

The Disability Confident scheme is designed to help employers recruit and retain disabled people and people with health conditions. You can view the list of employers who have signed up to the scheme.

Business Disability Forum

The Business Disability Forum is a not-for-profit member organisation that works towards making it easier and more rewarding to do business with and employ disabled people. You can view their list of members to see which organisations have signed up to help create a disability-smart world.

Remploy

Remploy is the UK's largest provider of jobs for disabled people. Remploy's recruitment services are designed to provide employment opportunities to disabled people across all sectors of business and industry. You can contact them on 0845 601 5878 or at [email protected].

Technology Association of Visually Impaired People

Technology Association of Visually Impaired People (TAVIP) is a lively community of blind and partially sighted computer users. They offer training, discussion, networking and help to all their members. You can call them on 0845 430 8627 or email them at [email protected].

Visionary

Visionary is a membership organisation for local sight loss charities - sometimes known as local societies or associations for blind and partially sighted people.
