Transport campaigning
Merton disabled and older campaigners joined forces on 17 July to meet with Councillors and Transport for London to discuss problems being caused by a particular bus stop.
A re-design of one Merton Street has meant various items have been removed, including a busy bus stop. As a result, one stop is now served by six buses while a seventh terminates there. It has since become common for two, three and sometime four buses to stack up at the stop, leaving blind and partially sighted unable to notice when their bus pulls in and so missing their bus.
We are now hoping that this will no longer be the case. The meeting was very positive with Councillors agreeing to look at options to reinstate the second bus stop. Another meeting will be held shortly to talk about how to go about doing this.
