Technology can make life easier if you have sight or hearing problems, but knowing where to start isn't always easy.
What do we do?
Our team of staff and volunteers will help you discover how to get the most out of being online – from the basics of using a smartphone to staying in touch with family and friends, to browsing websites and sending emails, to keeping up with news or your leisure interests.
Our Online Today team will walk you through whatever you need to feel more confident in using the technology that most suits you.
And you don’t even have to own technology, through Online Today you can try before you buy!
Betty explains how, with a bit of support from our team, she can do all sorts of things with her iPad including sending her daughter an email.
What do we mean by accessible technology?
In the context of Online Today, accessible tech is any digital technology which can enable someone who has difficulty reading standard print, due to their sight, to access information independently. The range of accessible technology we can provide advice and training on includes:
- eBook readers
- Screen reading software
- Screen magnification software
The one to one support through Online Today is fantastic – you can just bring along what you want to learn. I discovered I can see emails much easier and quicker on the iPad than the computer so I learnt how to set these up on my ipad and iphone and can now email my son in South Africa!

Group sessions - information and demonstrations of various equipment in a group setting. We can also attend community groups to deliver talks and demonstrations.
Technology clinics –phone in or drop in and talk to one of our Online Today team if you have a quick tech query or get stuck using your device. We’re here to help.
