Following the general election on 5 May we wrote to new Assembly Members to make them aware of the work that RNIB Cymru does and our priorities for this new Assembly.

Dear Assembly Member

I write on behalf of RNIB Cymru to congratulate you on your election to the National Assembly for Wales. I look forward to working with you over the coming five years and supporting you in your efforts to improve the lives of the people of Wales.

As you are probably aware, our organisation works to raise awareness of the issues faced on a daily basis by the estimated 110,000 people with sight loss in Wales. This ranges from facing long delays for follow up eye treatments to accessing transport independently and from facing higher living costs to not having the right support in employment or education.

You can read our full manifesto online and if you should need any further information about how to assist any of your constituents with sight loss please don’t hesitate to contact me.

We will shortly be holding a sight loss awareness session in the Senedd building and will send you an invitation in due course. We would love to see as many people there as possible, and hope that you and your staff will come along to find out more about living with sight loss.

Finally, we will be re-registering the Cross Party Group on Vision as soon as possible. This Group has successfully secured many changes in policy since it was first registered in 2010. RNIB Cymru has run the secretariat for this group with support from the Wales Vision Strategy Implementation Group.

We are now seeking a new Chair and members for this group who are passionate about improving the lives of blind and partially sighted people to lead this group in the new Assembly. We hope that you will come along to our first meeting to see what you can do to help improve the lives of blind and partially sighted people in Wales.

Congratulations once again and I look forward to meeting with you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Emma Sands
