"When I was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa I had no idea what it was.

"I first noticed my peripheral vision going when playing 5-aside football. I had difficulty seeing people coming in to tackle me! I put it down to the fact I was getting older, I was slower and not as fit as I used to be. I have trouble getting around, as well as an irrational hatred of wheelie cases, rucksacks and people attached to their smartphones and not looking where they’re going. I wanted to do something positive, to raise awareness of RP and to help others who are losing their sight. I decided to enter the Brighton Marathon. What an experience it was – emotional, exhilarating and exhausting all in one! I finished with a great time of 4 hours and 13 minutes, and raised £1,000. I couldn’t have done it without the support of Team RNIB. "
