“My life began to change when I was first employed by RNIB”
At the age of 14, I developed a genetic condition called Optic Leber’s Neuropathy. This meant I went from a fully sighted boy to being told I was quickly going blind within the space of a couple of months. At this point, I wasn’t at all sure what my future held. Over the next couple of years, I struggled through school and university, not really able to enjoy the things I had loved when I was fully sighted. My life began to change when I was first employed by RNIB. I met and worked with many people with a range of sight conditions and I no longer felt alone. RNIB allowed me to develop and grow, leading me from strength to strength, always encouraging me to strive to do more and be better. I learnt new skills and techniques to become the person I am today. Without RNIB, my life would be less rich and for this I am truly thankful.
