“The opportunity to work so closely with blind and partially sighted people allows me to build connections and help.”

I am the ECLO for Aberdeenshire. Aberdeen is the fourth largest council area in Scotland, primarily very rural, with an area covering 2,439 square miles. I am home based and do my work through a mix of telephone calls and home visits. No two days are ever the same. I get great satisfaction from being in a role where I can make a real difference in someone’s life by providing emotional and practical support. I am able to connect directly with blind and partially sighted people and their relatives, learning about their specific needs, and can offer support and tools to help them deal with their sight loss and maintain their independence. The opportunity to work so closely with blind and partially sighted people allows me to build connections and help – this is the reason I love being an ECLO.
