"Today I’m celebrating my 70th birthday. I know, I don’t look it. Presents and cake will be accepted.

"I first appeared on the BBC in 1952 with my original co-star Harry Corbett. We worked together throughout the 50s and 60s, before I was handed over to Harry’s son, Matthew. Together we caused all kinds of mischief (well, I caused lots of mischief) along with my friends Sweep and Soo until the 90s. And for the past 19 years, I’ve had the privilege of having Richard Cadell star alongside me on The Sooty Show. I’ve been helping RNIB raise money to help people living with sight loss since the sixties through their Sooty collection boxes. Together we’ve raised £11.5 million! This year, RNIB is aiming to find 2,018 new homes for Sooty boxes across the country, and help more blind and partially sighted people continue to live independent lives. Izzy wizzy, let’s get busy! "
