Making Christmas magic, for everyone
RNIB Christmas
What does Christmas magic mean to you? Shared moments decorating the tree? The twinkling of festive lights? Sneaking back for seconds (or thirds) at Christmas dinner? Whatever your traditions, one thing is always true: Christmas magic should be for everyone.
But for people and families with sight loss, everyday barriers can make it harder to experience the Christmas magic that should belong to everyone. With your support, we can bring the festive magic to life for the families that need it most.
Whether it’s making Christmas special for a child with vision impairment with an accessible letter from Santa, filling stockings with accessible gifts from the RNIB shop or bringing people together for an Evening of Festive Music – your support could help us make Christmas magic, for everyone.
Making Christmas magic, for Jenny
As a mother with sight loss, Jenny finds new ways to make sure her daughter, Theodora, feels the same Christmas magic as other families:
“Christmas was always about family, and now Christmas is about creating that same magic for my daughter, Theodora. She’s four and absolutely loves Christmas. My biggest concern as a mum with sight loss is that I never want Theodora to feel like she's missing out.
“I want her to have the same excitement and the same magical experiences as her friends."
Christmas should be about being part of the family, not watching from the edge of the room.”
Of all the magical moments Jenny shares with her daughter, there’s one this year she’s looking forward to most:
“One thing I'm particularly excited about this year is RNIB's Letter from Santa. What I love most is that we'll be requesting the audio version. An audio message means we can both sit together and listen. I can hear exactly what she's hearing. I can share that excitement and experience the magic alongside her.”
"A donation to RNIB means that parents like me who are living with sight loss, and children with vision impairment, can access the services RNIB provides, especially around Christmas time when it’s needed most.
Keira: why Christmas donations matter
“Hi! My name’s Keira – this year I’m on a mission to help even more children with vision impairment feel included in the Christmas magic.
I used to feel left out at Christmas – until the year everything changed! I got my first accessible Letter from Santa, and unlike most letters, this one was in braille. I could read it without Mum’s help! I finally felt included – it was so magical.
Last year, RNIB made Christmas special for children with vision impairment by sending more than 1,600 accessible Letters from Santa. There are 26,000 children with vision impairment in the UK and too many of them are still missing out at Christmas. But, with you on our team, we can make sure many more of them can take part in this festive tradition! We can send more letters than ever before – in braille, audio and large print – to more children and show them they deserve to be included too.
You could help children with vision impairment feel included in the festive magic with an accessible Letter from Santa this Christmas.”
