What difference do shades make?

Nearly half of all cases of sight loss are preventable and that is why we are asking you to protect your eyes by wearing your sunglasses this summer. It will help to prevent the harmful rays in sunlight from damaging your eyes, which can then increase the risk of cataracts and AMD. Wearing sunglasses is actually one of our top five tips for healthy eyes.

Wearing sunglasses with a UV filter will protect your eyes, but you want to make sure they are marked CE¹ or British Standard BS EN ISO 12312-1:2013 for a safe level of UV protection.
