Charmaine tells her story of vision rehabilitation - and the difference it made to her life.

"I lost sight as a result of sudden illness. I've come very far thanks to vision rehabilitation support. The confidence in being able to use the white cane effectively, so that I could get out and about, was an absolute lifeline. The technical skills and the emotional support, that the the vision rehabilitation specialist was able to give to me, opened up my life again."

Our Life on Pause report (2025) shows that access to vision rehabilitation in England remains in crisis:

• More than four in five local authorities in England failed to meet RNIB’s recommended timeframe for assessments.
• A fifth of local authorities left people waiting over a year before support was put in place.
• Barriers and delays can increase the risk of accidents, isolation and emotional distress.
