Philanthropy
Our Chair of Trustees Anna Tylor, with our Honorary President and much valued supporter, Dame Gail Ronson DBE
Every six minutes, someone in the UK starts to lose their sight. By 2050, the number of people living with sight loss is set to double.
Blind and partially sighted people are:
- Twice as likely to have no qualifications
- Three times as likely to be struggling financially
- Three times as likely to have poor mental health.
It’s crucial we act now. Your philanthropic gift will break down barriers for blind and partially sighted people.
Your gift will unlock confidence and opportunities for people like Amrit
Amrit first heard about RNIB when she was 13, through a social worker. “Looking back now, in that moment a beautiful light of hope switched on in me and my life as a blind teenager. To me, RNIB is my loyal and trusted best friend, supporter, guiding hand and there when I need it the most.”
Amrit has long dark hair and is wearing a black denim jacket, earrings and glasses, as she smiles at the camera.

How will my philanthropy make an impact for people with sight loss?
Your gift will:
- Drive systemic change to make the world more inclusive and equitable for people with sight loss: in education, employment, healthcare, voting, and transport.
- Empower people with sight loss to live confidently today through holistic services like our helpline, RNIB Eye Care Liaison Officers, counselling, reading services.
- Champion earlier intervention and sight loss prevention: through collaborating with the NHS and charity partners on The Eye Care Support Pathway, specialists who support people while they wait for eye care appointments, and training for health and social care professionals.

A Claridge's dinner event, the main focus of the image has a group of people dressed in formal clothing, sat down at a circular table with flowers in the middle, surrounded by drinking glasses. The room is big with many chandeliers and other guests at different tables.
Mavis’ story

Image description: Mavis is smiling: she has short dark blonde hair and glasses. She is wearing a blue jumper and black trousers.
Mavis has been a donor to RNIB since December 2023. Below, she explains what inspired her support.
“I’m very pleased that I decided to support RNIB and have been impressed and surprised how they keep me informed of what’s happening and all the things they do to make life easier for the people who need their help and support.
My own mum lost her sight when she was in her eighties and a very dear friend of mine also lost her sight. A friend and I have been on holiday with our blind friend a couple of times as she loves the sunshine and swimming. Her positive attitude never ceases to amaze me.
Since I started to support RNIB, I’ve met some lovely people who work for the charity and have seen the impact of the work they do. Knowing more about their work has raised my awareness as to how important this charity is for people like my mum and my friend. It’s good to know that my contribution helps so many people with sight loss.”

“RNIB prioritizes accessibility at every level and in every facet of their work, and this genuine, thoughtful, and ultimately creative approach shines through in initiatives like RNIB Bookshare.
SNF is proud to support the RNIB Bookshare program and the independence, imagination, and learning it fosters through its extensive library.” – Ange Munyakazi, Senior Program Officer at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF)

“The Ulverscroft Foundation supports a wide range of clinical, educational and social projects for people with visual impairment in the UK and overseas.
Improving access to books and reading, in whatever form, has always been at the heart of Ulverscroft's mission. That's why we are delighted to be able to support the RNIB Bookshare project. We hope it achieves its aim of enabling children and young people to enjoy access to textbooks, music and illustrations.” – Robert Gent, Chair of The Ulverscroft Foundation
