The National Institute for Health and Care Excellent (NICE) publish Quality Standards for Serious Eye Disorders. It is the latest in the suite of NICE guidance for eye care.
RNIB has today published a policy briefing on the NHS England Long-Term Plan, looking at the implications of the proposals from the perspective of eye health, and has concluded that, while there is welcome news for the additional support for children with learning disabilities or autism, there is very little specific to eye health, people at risk of visual impairment, or blind and partially sighted people.
The NHS Long Term Plan commits that it will invest to ensure that children with learning disabilities have their needs met by eyesight, hearing and dental services.
The Government announced additional funding for the NHS and the Long Term Plan is intended to make it fit for the future.
Following calls from RNIB, patients living with potentially blinding condition uveitis are now able to benefit from two new NICE approved treatments.
