Glasgow Tech Hub offers help for people with sight loss
Tech Hub volunteers Rosie and Emily troubleshoot a tablet together.
A new service launching at the Mitchell Library this month will help blind and partially sighted people get to grips with laptops, smartphones and more.
The RNIB Tech Hub offers appointments for anyone who wants help troubleshooting a tech problem, building their digital skills, or learning how to use the accessibility features on their devices.
Support is available for laptops, smartphones, tablets and home devices. Volunteers can also help people get started with apps, including RNIB Reading Services.
James Adams, Director of RNIB Scotland said,
"For many people living with sight loss, technology can open the door to greater independence, staying in touch with friends and family, and enjoying books and news. But knowing where to begin, or how to make a device work for you, isn’t always easy. Our new RNIB Tech Hub in Glasgow aims to give people the time, space and friendly support to find out."
The RNIB Tech Hub runs on the last Wednesday of every month. Appointments are booked through the RNIB Helpline on 0303 123 9999, selecting option 3, then 4, to speak to a Digital Skills Advisor who will talk through what support is needed and arrange a call back to confirm a date and time.
People attending should bring their device along, fully charged, and the Tech Hub team will take care of the rest.
The service is based at the newly refurbished Resource Unit for Vision Impaired People (RUVI) at the Mitchell Library which offers specialist equipment and support for people with sight loss.
