RNIB Scotland social and leisure groups

It's good to talk. Our community connection events will hopefully include something to interest everybody. So please feel free to join us.

The list below details a mixture of online or virtual calls, and groups that meet up in person. If you would like further information or take part in any of the sessions please email the team at [email protected] or call 0131 652 3140.

Edinburgh & Lothians

  • Edinburgh & Lothians Youth Group: Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 7pm
  • Edinburgh and Lothian's Art Group, Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm
  • Edinburgh & Lothian’s Craft Group, Thursdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Edinburgh Music Group: Fridays from 2pm to 3.30pm
  • Edinburgh Dominoes Group: A social group which meets every Friday at RNIB Scotland, Moulsdale House in Edinburgh. Play dominos and chat over coffee and refreshments. Fridays from 1.30pm to 3pm
  • Edinburgh Paws in The Park: Every second Wednesday from 11.00am to 1.00pm
  • East Lothian Health Walk Group: Thursdays, weekly from 10.15am to 11.15am (followed by a visit to a local café) alternating between Musselburgh and Haddington
  • Corstorphine Connect Sight Loss Group: Meets on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 2pm to 3.30pm for coffee, cake and chat, with a speaker or entertainment at the Corstorphine Astoria Centre, Kirk Loan.
  • Braille class: Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm, at Moulsdale House. This class is for anyone with any level of experience who wishes to learn how to read and write in braille. If you wish to attend, you must book a place in advance by contacting: [email protected].

Forth Valley

  • Telephone group: Forth Valley Book Group: First Tuesday each month from 6pm to 7pm.
  • Telephone Group: Forth Valley Social Group: Thursday, fortnightly from 3pm to 4pm. A general discussion group for residents of Forth Valley.

Glasgow

  • Glasgow Queens Park Walking Group: Monday, weekly at 10am meeting at Queens Park Station.
  • Glasgow Book Group: First Saturday of each month from 3pm in GoMA Library, Queen Street, Glasgow.
  • Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) Library Drop-in: Second Wednesday of month, 11am-1pm.
  • Castlemilk Library Drop-in: Third Tuesday of month, 11am-1pm.
  • Mitchell Library Drop-in: Last Thursday of month, 11am-1pm.
  • Telephone group: Glasgow United. Monday, weekly from 3pm to 4pm. A general social group for Glasgow community members.
  • Baillieston Library Drop-in: Second Thursday of month, 10.30am – 12pm.
  • Newton Mearns Community Drop-in: Second week of the month, 11am – 1pm at The Market Place, The Avenue (shopping centre), Newton Mearns.

Lanarkshire

  • Airdrie Bowls Group: A lawn bowls group for blind and partially sighted people of all skill levels and bowling experience. Thursdays from 10am to 12 noon.
  • Airdrie Social Group: A social group for blind and partially sighted people in Airdrie and Coatbridge. First and third Tuesdays of the month, 10am to 11:30 AM.
  • East Kilbride Walking Group: Mondays from 11am to noon

Ayrshire

  • Troon Book Group: Third Friday each month at 2pm in Troon library.
  • Telephone group: Prestwick Book Group. Thursday, monthly 2pm to 3pm.

Highlands and Islands

  • Inverness Walking Group: Monthly, 2nd Monday of the month,11:30am to 1pm
  • Telephone group: Highlands & Islands Peer Support Group: Weekly, Monday 3pm - 4pm. Weekly social and general discussion groups for people in the Highlands & Islands region of Scotland.

Online or Telephone based groups

  • Working Age Peer Support Group: Second Monday of every month from 15:00-16:00.
  • Diabetes Social Group: Monday from 2pm to 3pm. Fortnightly.
  • Film Group: Mondays, fortnightly from 4pm to 5pm. A discussion group for fans of TV and film.
  • Technology Group: First Monday of each month, 11am. Discussion and guest speakers for those interested in new tech developments.
  • Football Focus: Tuesdays from 1pm to 2pm.
  • Creative Writers Telephone Group: Tuesday, fortnightly from 7pm.
  • Women’s Group: Last Wednesday of the month from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
  • Young Person's Peer Support Group: Second Wednesday of the month from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
  • Gaming Group: Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm. A social group for blind and partially sighted people interested in computer and video games on all platforms. Open to anyone regardless of experience of gaming.

RNIB Connect Scotland
