Originally from Cornwall but now living in Cardiff, 58 year old Roz began volunteering for Cardiff Institute for the Blind (CIB) in the spring of last year.
Roz was diagnosed with macular degeneration 4 and half years ago and after finding help and support from the Macular Society, decided she wanted to give something back.
“I was a web-designer and changed my job, due to my eye condition. I came into contact with Michelle who works for CIB when I was with the Macular group which met monthly. I decided to become a Gadget Guide Demonstrator and I also help out with various monthly group meetings too.”
Not only does Roz take on the role of the above jobs but is also a yoga and mindfulness teacher.
“I have found both invaluable with helping me deal with the treatments and psychological effects of sight loss. I now hold a monthly Chair Yoga class and have applied to be a Studio Reader with the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB). I’m really looking forward to starting the training.”
“I believe you need to find a role that suits your personality and skills. I really enjoy working with people, and it’s so helpful to meet people who are experiencing the same problems. We learn so much from each other.”
“CIB run some amazing classes and groups, and they provide a great support to their members. Sight loss can be very isolating, so it’s lovely to see so many people attending the meetings. It’s a very warm and welcoming community.”
