RNIB Cymru’s Transcription Team have won a prestigious award at the New York Festival’s World’s Best Radio Programmes ceremony which was held last night (19 June), at the salubrious Manhattan Penthouse, New York. Coming top amongst entries from over 30 countries the Welsh language narration of David Walliams’ ‘Cyfrinach Nana Crwca’ (Gangsta Granny) was awarded the Bronze Radio Winner in the category of Best Narration – Solo.
“All you can do in this life is follow your dreams. Otherwise you're just wasting your time,” is a quote from David Walliams’ popular ‘Gangsta Granny’ children’s book, and following their own dream to New York is the RNIB Cymru Transcription Team.
Originally from Cornwall but now living in Cardiff, 58 year old Roz began volunteering for Cardiff Institute for the Blind (CIB) in the spring of last year.
Roz was diagnosed with macular degeneration 4 and half years ago and after finding help and support from the Macular Society, decided she wanted to give something back.
There is a significant community of visually impaired people living in all parts of Wales, but those in the more rural areas often face additional challenges in relation to public transport and getting around, and that’s where RNIB Cymru Online Today volunteer Linda Parsons from Pembroke in Pembrokeshire makes a difference.
