Dot-to-dot uncontracted (grade 1) braille (self-study)

This is a self-teach uncontracted braille (grade 1) course. There are two versions of the course available: Dot-to-dot for sighted learners and Dot-to-dot for touch learners.

About Dot-to-dot uncontracted (grade 1) braille (self-study)

Although many elements of the two versions are the same, it is important that those learning to read braille by touch use the touch learner's pack. This version provides much more reading material at the early stages, concentrating on tracking and tactual discrimination skills.

Starting with pre-braille skills, the complete uncontracted braille (grade 1) code is taught in small steps, with plenty of practice exercises including games, puzzles and short reading passages.

The Dot-to-dot instructional text supplied with the course materials is presented on a multi-media CD in the Touch learners pack (includes DAISY audio, an electronic Word file, which can be displayed on computer screen or printed in a suitable font size), and a formatted contracted braille (grade 2) file for braillists supporting a touch learner) and in print in the Sighted learners pack.

If you are looking for more information on Dot-to-dot, please contact our helpline on telephone 0303 123 9999 from Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturdays 9am to 1pm. Outside these times, leave us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
