Be My Eyes partners with RNIB to provide in-app support

UK users of Be My Eyes, a free award-winning app providing assistance to people with sight loss, can now connect directly via video call with RNIB’s Helpline and Sight Loss Advice Service advisers in the Tech for Life team to get a range of support and advice. 

Whether they have queries around products, or need advice and guidance with technology, including smartphones or tablets, app users can simply select RNIB from the list of specialist support providers and they will be connected to a staff member in real time via video.

The Be My Eyes partnership is the latest in a series of innovative ventures allowing RNIB to support to blind and partially sighted people during this challenging time, when many people don’t have access to their regular services and support networks and can be feeling isolated. Initially, the partnership will run for a four month trial period.

Users can still get general sighted assistance from a Be My Eyes volunteer via the app in the usual way.

We are thrilled it has taken quick action, expanding services to ensure, despite being isolated in their homes, the millions of Brits adjusting to both sight loss and this new, unanticipated period of isolation, will not be left without support. Jamie Dormandy, head of advice and customer service at RNIB, adds: “We are delighted to open up RNIB’s Helpline via the Be My Eyes app and expect it to be a useful channel in providing technology and product advice, especially at a time when people may need to rely more on remote communication and support.  

“We have increased our Helpline and expended our online information in response to a significant increase in demand as we provide advice and connect people to local support. We hope that Be My Eyes will further enhance the support we’re able to offer customers with product and tech queries.”
