Every day, 250 people start to lose their sight in the UK.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has meant more people are dealing with their sight loss alone.
Receiving a sight loss diagnosis can feel like your world has been turned upside down. When you're unsure of who to turn to for advice, the support that an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) can provide is life changing.
My name is Jenny and I was diagnosed with reverse retinitis pigmentosa when I was 17. Having access to an RNIB ECLO would have made such a difference to me. That’s why I became one – to make sure no one goes through what I did.
More than one million eye appointments have been missed in the last year. That means many people are experiencing their sight loss diagnosis without support.
But with your help, RNIB ECLOs like me can provide vital support to more people with sight loss and help them face the future with confidence. We can be there to explain, reassure and advise, from day one of diagnosis.
My dream is for everyone who is diagnosed with sight loss to get the support of an RNIB ECLO from day one.
