Only one in four blind and partially sighted people of working age are in employment. We want to change that.

If you’re blind or partially sighted, our Employment service can provide specialist support and advice to help you find work or to stay in your job if your sight deteriorates.

Eye Work Too project

“Having someone to help me when I needed it along with the IT training improved my chances of employment. I’ve now got a job.”

The Eye Work Too project is a unique initiative, offering life-changing opportunities for blind or partially sighted people to maximise their long term employment potential. The programme offers an extensive range of activities, training and support, is tailored to each participant's individual needs and abilities, prior to an optional paid work placement.

We also work with employers from all sectors to increase their confidence in employing someone with sight loss.

The Eye Work Too project is part funded through the Northern Ireland European Social Fund Programme, the Department for the Economy, and the Department for Communities.

Pre-placement Programme Overview:

  • CV Development
  • Interview Skills
  • Job Search Techniques
  • Confidence Building
  • Training in the use of Assistive Technology
  • There is an opportunity to attain Level 1 Certificate in IT User Skills.
  • Job Club and support activities

Paid work placement (optional)

All participants will be offered the opportunity to try out their preferred career options through an invaluable 12-week paid work placement, tailored to meet their individual needs. Ongoing support, guidance and training will be offered throughout this period and any assistive technology can be loaned to the employer to enable participants to fully engage in all aspects of work life.

Are you an employer?

Could you provide a short term work placement for one of our Eye Work Too programme participants?

We are always seeking to build partnerships with more organisations willing to provide a short term work placement for one of our programme participants.

Salary costs will be covered by Eye Work Too project funding. Your organisation will benefit from free visual awareness training, invaluable firsthand experience and ongoing support.

“In Lloyds Banking Group, RNIB’s Eye Work Too programme gives us a great chance to fulfil one of our key objectives in supporting our local community, and increases staff awareness of diversity in the workplace by giving someone with sight loss the opportunity to gain some experience with us. Who knows, they may end up coming to work for us one day.”
