Description

RNIB Specialist Production in Gateshead is inviting commercial companies to participate in a unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity. This initiative offers a hands-on, fun team-based experience that supports blind and partially sighted people through the production of Talking Books.

RNIB produces approximately 28,000 CD Talking Books each month. These books are more than just audio - they are a lifeline for many of our customers, helping them stay connected to memories, imagination, and the world around them. Your team’s time and energy will directly support this vital service.

Volunteers will begin the day with a guided tour of our Specialist Production site in Gateshead. This tour showcases the incredible range of accessible products we create and consistently leaves visitors inspired and amazed. We have some great products that make fabulous talking points such as children’s shared reading books, tactile pictures and floor plans, tactile colouring in books, exam papers and library books.

Volunteers will then assist in packing CD Talking Books into pre-printed wallets. Each disc is personalised with the customer’s name to ensure accuracy. While our production target is 200 discs per 15 minutes, volunteers are encouraged to work at a comfortable pace. Friendly competition is welcomed, and we offer a league table and certificates (printed and in braille) for standout contributions.

This activity is ideally suited for corporate groups of 4–6 people per session. Sessions can be scheduled for half-day or full-day experiences, depending on your team’s availability. We welcome both one off sessions or regular sessions.
