Work with a Visibly Better Employer

Inclusive employers committed to supporting blind and partially sighted people.

Are you looking for an employer that understands accessibility? The Visibly Better Employer (VBE) quality standard highlights organisations that offer inclusive recruitment and working practices for people with sight loss.

More than 75 organisations across the UK – including Tesco, Amazon and the House of Commons – have already achieved VBE.

What is Visibly Better Employer?

Visibly Better Employer is RNIB’s national programme, backed by major employers such as Tesco and the Department for Work and Pensions. It helps organisations build accessible, inclusive workplaces for blind and partially sighted people.

When an employer signs up, our specialist team works directly with them to ensure their practices support blind and partially sighted people at every step.

What we assess

Our employment and accessibility specialists review key areas, such as:

  • Job advertising and recruitment
  • Accessibility of applications and interview processes
  • Digital and IT systems
  • Reasonable adjustments for staff with sight loss
  • Promotion, training and career progression
  • Organisation-wide understanding of sight loss

To achieve the VBE quality standard, employers must act on our recommendations and demonstrate their commitment to creating an inclusive workplace.

What this means for blind and partially sighted jobseekers

Applying for a role with a Visibly Better Employer means:

  • a fair, accessible and inclusive recruitment process
  • an employer who understands and welcomes reasonable adjustments
  • colleagues with a good understanding of sight loss
  • a workplace committed to helping you succeed.

You can apply with confidence knowing that the employer has taken real steps to become accessible and inclusive.
