This year marks the 10th anniversary of our bestselling versatile and indispensable audio labeller, RNIB PenFriend, and to celebrate we're unveiling the newest upgrade.
As well as creating your own audio labels for groceries, medicines, DVDs and CDs, clothes, toiletries, paperwork and much more, you can use the new RNIB PenFriend 3 to store and play MP3 files.
The PenFriend 3 has all the same nifty features as the PenFriend 2, with the addition of a new function that enables users to listen to Talking Books.
Sarah Matthews is a avid user of the PenFriend and tell us why she's a fan:
"I have used the PenFriend since 2014 in a variety of ways. When my son was younger, I would ask a family member to record the words in his favourite picture books on to a dot on each page, and then I would put headphones in to read the book to him. I also use the PenFriend in the kitchen for labelling herbs and spices and for noting down my favourite recipes in a notebook.
"I always have the PenFriend on me so if someone phones me I am able to record a phone or reference number or take note of a doctors appointment on a dot on the inside cover of my phone. I also use the PenFriend to label my eye shadows, lip gloss and small bottles for travel.
I have used my PenFriend so much over the years and it has survived lots of accidents with water. I think that if you are new to sight loss I would recommend it as the first piece of assistive technology to buy. The device is so simple so there’s no technology barrier to using it and there are so many ways it can help you be more independent."

Did you know you can make four small labels from one large label? For example, if you have several items to label that are the same, such as four tins of baked beans, you can record the message on to one large label, then cut that label into four smaller labels and attach them to the four tins.
