See the person, not the sight loss

We want people to see sight loss differently. Part of our mission is showing the realities of living with sight loss – from adapting to a diagnosis to living fully and independently as a blind or partially sighted person.

Our “See the person” campaign aims to share these realities and highlight the role we can all play in building a better, more accessible world for people with sight loss.

Blind and partially sighted people should be able to live the lives they want to lead. But too often, they face many barriers in their daily lives.

At RNIB, we’re here to break down those barriers – but we can’t do it alone. With your support, we can provide practical and emotional support for people throughout their sight loss journey.

Our work doesn’t stop with support – we also campaign to change perceptions of sight loss across society. Together, we can create a more inclusive world where all blind and partially sighted people can live the life they want to lead, without limits.

Our campaign story

Our character Ava is a typical teenager - an avid gamer who dreams of working in technology and has a visual impairment. We follow Ava on her sight loss journey, including her experiences following the initial diagnosis and the worry and frustration she feels, as she faces a lack of understanding from people around her and other challenges. We show how her determination, RNIB’s support and the understanding of people around her allow her to realise her dreams and ambitions.

In our “See the person” campaign, our character Ava, receives practical and emotional support as she struggles with her sight loss diagnosis. RNIB is here to support more people like Ava throughout their journey; with practical skills that prepares them for life with sight loss, or emotional support to help rebuild their confidence.
