We want to achieve a world where equal participation by blind and partially sighted people is the norm, and we work to remove the barriers people with sight loss face.
To help us do this it’s important to understand what the current barriers are, and which are the greatest. This understanding ensures our strategy is focused on priority areas – those most important to blind and partially sighted people – and our resources directed towards initiatives where we can maximise impact.
The following piece of research - Barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people - offers us a list of 12 barriers, ranked in order of priority, and explores some differences between sub-groups.
Information and local support are vital at times like these, so we are boosting our services to meet a record demand. Please help us ensure blind and partially sighted people do not face these challenges on their own.
