RNIB Scotland social and leisure groups

It's good to talk. Our community connection events will hopefully include something to interest everybody. So please feel free to join us.

The list below details a mixture of online or virtual calls, and groups that meet up in person. If you would like further information or take part in any of the sessions please email the team at [email protected] or call 0131 652 3140.

Monday

  • Braille learning class: 2pm weekly in Edinburgh.
  • Ayr Ten Pin Bowling Group: 2nd and 4th Monday each month at LA Bowl, 17 Miller Road, Ayr, KA7 2AX.
  • Highlands and Islands Peers Call: weekly at 3pm.
  • Glasgow United: A virtual social group for Glasgow community members. Weekly from 3pm to 4pm.
  • Hi tech, Lo Tech Technology call: 11am, fortnightly.
  • Virtual Film Group: A discussion group for fans of TV and film. Weekly from 4pm to 5pm.
  • Diabetes Phone Group: Fortnightly, from 2pm to 3pm.
  • Glasgow Health Walk, Glasgow Queens Park: Weekly, every Monday, from 10am until 11am.
  • Highland Health Walk, Inverness Walk and Chat Group: second Monday of the month from 11:30am until 1pm.
  • East Kilbride Walking Group: Mondays from 11am to 12pm.
  • South Ayrshire Health Walk, Café at Links Road, Prestwick Beach: weekly, every Monday from 10:30am.

Tuesday

  • Kilmarnock Social Group: Meets at 1:30pm for a chat. Second Tuesday each month, The Howard Centre, 5 Portland Road. General chat.
  • Edinburgh & Lothians Art Group: weekly, Tuesday from 11am to 1pm.
  • Edinburgh and Lothian Audio Book group: 10:30am on the second Tuesday of each month.
  • Airdrie Social Group: A social group for blind and partially sighted people in Airdrie and Coatbridge. First and third Tuesdays of the month, 10am to 11:30am.
  • Edinburgh and Lothians Book Group: Second Tuesday of the month, from 10:30am to 12pm.
  • Football Focus: Virtual call, from 1pm to 2pm.
  • Forth Valley Book group: Virtual call on the first Tuesday each month, from 6pm to 7pm.

Wednesday

  • Scottish Borders Peer Support Group: first Wednesday of the month from 2pm until 3:30pm at The Cross Inn Wetherspoons, Peebles.
  • Edinburgh & Lothians Youth Group: Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 7pm.
  • Shettleston Social Group: Social group for blind and partially sighted people in East Glasgow. Second and fourth Wednesday each month, from 3pm to 4pm, Tesco Community Hub, Shettleston.
  • Young person's peer support telephone group: 6.30pm on second Wednesday of each month.
  • Virtual Women’s group: last Wednesday of each month at 1:30pm.
  • Campaigns virtual call: hear about RNIB Scotland’s latest campaigning work at 10am, every two months.
  • Edinburgh and Lothian's Paws In The Park, Inverleith Park: fortnightly on a Wednesday, from 11am until 12:30pm. A time for those with guide dogs to let them run around, and a chance for a cuppa afterwards.
  • East Ayrshire Health Walk, Dean Castle Country Park, Kilmarnock: fortnightly on a Wednesday, from 11am until 12pm.

Thursday

  • Edinburgh & Lothians Craft Group: weekly, every Thursday from 10:30am until 12:30pm.
  • VI Montrose Peer Support Group: fortnightly, on a Thursday from 1pm until 3pm at the Park Hotel.
  • Airdrie Bowls Group: A lawn bowls group for blind and partially sighted people of all skill levels and bowling experience. Thursdays from 10am to 12pm.
  • Prestwick book group: A call at 2pm, monthly.
  • Forth Valley Discussion Group: A virtual call for general discussion group for residents of Forth Valley. Thursday, fortnightly from 3pm to 4pm.
  • Virtual Scottish History Group: Alternating guest speakers provide tales of Scottish history and folklore before inviting community members to share their own stories and love of history. Thursday, fortnightly from 1pm to 2pm.
  • VI gaming group: A virtual social group for blind and partially sighted people interested in computer and video games on all platforms. Open to anyone regardless of experience of gaming. Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm.
  • East Lothian Health Walk: weekly, alternating between Musselburgh and Haddington, every Thursday from 10:15am for an hour followed by a café stop. Email volunteer Shona Black: [email protected]
  • Glasgow Dominoes Group: fortnightly, Thursdays from 1pm at R-CADE Café, 121 Saltmarket, Glasgow.

Friday

  • Edinburgh & Lothians Dominoes Group: weekly, Friday from 1:30pm to 3pm.
  • Coatbridge bowling group: 10am to 12pm, weekly at Coatbridge Indoor Bowls Club, Quarry Street, Coatbridge.
  • East Kilbride bowling group: from 11:30am to 1.30pm, weekly at John Wrights Sport Centre, East Kilbride.
  • Troon Book Group: Third Friday each month at 2pm in Troon library.
  • Charles Bonnet Syndrome MS Teams / phone group: 2pm last Friday of the month.
  • Creative Writing telephone group: 2pm, fortnightly.
  • Edinburgh Music Group: every Friday from 2pm to 3:30pm.

Saturday

  • Corstorphine Connect Sight Loss Group: every third Saturday of the month from 2pm until 3:30pm, at Astoria Centre - Kirk Loan, Edinburgh.
  • Glasgow virtual book group: 4pm, monthly.
