Services in Edinburgh and the Lothians

The contracts for providing Rehabilitation, Social Work services, and for maintaining the Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI) register in Edinburgh and the Lothians, will change from 1st April, 2021.

RNIB Scotland will no longer be the contact for these services.



Rehabilitation services / Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI) register

The Rehabilitation service and management of the CVI register will be provided by Sight Scotland in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian:

In West Lothian Rehabilitation services are provided by Visibility Scotland:

Management of the CVI register is provided by West Lothian Council:



Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) service

The ECLO service across Edinburgh and the Lothians, which offers emotional and practical support to people with sight loss, will be provided by Visibility Scotland:



Social Work services

Adults with sight loss requiring social work support will now be dealt with directly by the social work teams in each local authority:

Midlothian Council

East Lothian Council

West Lothian Council



RNIB Scotland services and support

RNIB Scotland will continue to offer a range of services and support throughout the country, including campaigning on issues of concern to people with sight loss, work with children and young people, support with retaining your job after sight loss, products to help maximise your independence, support in using new technology, and help to maximise your income
